Name: Sanaki Kirsch Altina
Canon: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
OU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: Post-Radiant Dawn
History: Twenty years before the start of Path of Radiance, the apostle of Begnion was assassinated. A rumor circulated that the heron laguz of Serenes were to blame, and although the herons were in fact a peace-loving species, the people of Begnion mobbed and wiped out the herons completely.
Flash forward twenty years later. The ten-year old Sanaki is empress and apostle when another country, Daein, invades another country, Crimea, and the princess of Crimea comes to Begnion seeking aid. Before Sanaki will lend her Begnion's support, she has her mercenaries complete a number of minor tasks for her. It's revealed that she's working against the corrupt senate - she cannot oppose them openly, being a ten-year-old girl, but she can subvert their wishes.
When two survivors of the massacre are found, Sanaki gets on her knees and apologizes profusely for what her people did. The survivors forgive her for her guilt, and the wounds between the species begin to heal. Sanaki lends Begnion's troops to Crimea's effort, and the Crimean princess goes on to take back her country.
Three years after that, Begnion is in control of the defeated Daein, specifically Begnion's Senate. Sanaki is ousted from control of Begnion by the corrupt Senators, and flees to seek alliance with the other countries at war with Begnion in order to reclaim her throne.
During the war, the goddess Ashera is awoken (though not by Sanaki). Everyone save for a handful of soldiers is turned to stone, and Sanaki is part of the effort to go to Begnion in order to defeat the goddess and return things to normal.
In the middle of the journey there, a senator reveals that Sanaki is not the true apostle - she had an older sister who disappeared long ago, and she cannot hear the voice of the goddess because of this. Sanaki is unsettled by this, but regains the strength to help her comrades defeat the corrupt Senators and the goddess restoring the world to normal and ending the war.
After the war is over, she rules over Begnion as its empress and unites the continent in pace.
Personality: Sanaki is better than you. Yes, she is. She's the empress and apostle of the largest country on the face of Tellius. You owe her your respect. Sanaki is very used to getting her way and being paid deference. When she doesn't, she tends to behave like a bit of a brat. She comes across as disdainful in many situations, if not demanding. From birth she has always been the most important person on the continent.
However, that's not the only side of Sanaki. She is perfectly willing to go down on her knees and beg for forgiveness for her country. She really does want peace and justice in the world, especially for her home of Begnion. She's aware of the maneuvering of the mostly corrupt senate and is cunning enough to work against them when they step out of line without openly opposing them and causing civil war. Being the leader of the largest country in the world has given her a good deal of responsibility on her shoulders, and she carries that better than most any other thirteen-year-old would. And when it matters most, in times of war she is willing to work with other rulers as much as she can to end the fighting, ignoring her usual pride.
Sanaki goes through some doubts in Radiant Dawn about the legitimacy of her claim to the throne. It's a marked contrast from her usual confidence, and it lasts some time before she comes to realize that her people support her completely, giving her the right to be a just ruler even without being able to hear the voice of the goddess, as the apostle is supposed to.
Strengths: Sanaki is very, very good at setting things on fire with magic. She also has a great deal of capability with thunder, wind, and light magic - basically anything that isn't dark or healing magic. She is very good at keeping tabs on the state of affairs between a large group of people. She knows which ones hate her most, which ones have picked up a few illegal slaves, which ones can still be trusted... In terms of politics, she's at least better than any other thirteen-year old (ten in the original!) in Tellius. She's also filled with self-confidence most of the time. And she has a genuinely good heart, which most people realize eventually.
Weaknesses: Humility is a problem. So are physical tasks - her HP and Defense suck, and her Strength really sucks. She's used to the labor being done for her, so learning how take care of herself will e tricky/take forever. She takes her duty as empress very seriously, and legitimate doubts as to how she's doing or whether she should be doing it at all unnerve her.
Possessions: Tomes of Cymbeline, Arcthunder, and Arcwind (fire, thunder, and wind magic respectively.)
Pony/Animal Type: Unicorn. Her magic is something to be reckoned with.
Cutie Mark: The crest of Begnion, pictured here.
Pony Picture: Here, yo.
SAMPLES
First Person: The notion of what's plausible and what's implausible is quite arbitrary, isn't it?
I must admit, when I came here, I balked not only at being in the body of a unicorn but in unicorns existing at all. What an idea, to think a horse could have magical abilities!
Yet my home of Begnion is well known for its pegasi, and I have been surrounded by such as the mounts of my royal guard my whole life. Some might think it odd that a relative of the horse could ever fly, yet to me that seems as obvious as sun rising upon every morning.
Perhaps I have not been open-minded enough to you, Equestria.
Third Person: Sanaki had thought herself difficult to fluster. Becoming trapped in the body of a pony (she refused to think of herself as a pony for the moment) taught her otherwise, but anyone would surely panic at that, thirteen years old or otherwise.
There were some other things that surprised her. Not having beorc or laguz in this land, she expected after calming down. The weather being run by ponies, she did not.
How did that even work out? It was the weather. Magic might create a gust of wind or a shock of lightning, but weather patterns were complicated and influenced each other. They still had normal weather with no goddess around to do anything with it, so why should this place require ponies to manage the clouds and the rain?
Why did ponies have technology that beorc had yet to develop? These 'radios' would have been incredibly useful in Begnion. Perhaps Sanaki could take one back home and pay a tinker to study it... when she returned home. Which, of course, she would soon. There was no doubt of that.
Still, to have such a strange world in existence... It was all very perplexing, and Sanaki did not enjoy being perplexed at all.
